Australia is a nation of immigrants with Italians making up the second largest non-English speaking immigrant group. The Museo Italiano in Carlton shares their story in a free permanent exhibition through the following themes: Departures, Making Lives, Settlement, Interactions, and Identity. Departures narrate the reasons for Italian migration while Making Lives is a mini documentary on the growth of the Italian community. Settlement displays objects and skills used to make a new life in Melbourne. Interactions highlight the gastronomic, sporting, and cultural influence, while Identity short films explore what it means to be Italian-Australian in the contemporary context. Are there Italian influences where you live?
