The Festival of Lights is a colourful pageantry of talent and artistry embodied in 532 luminous lanterns encasing 20,000 light globes. More than 20 Chinese artisans spent 6552 hours painstakingly draping 30,000 metres of silk on 40 tonnes of steel that go up as high as 15 metres and as wide as 20 metres. The piece de resistance is a towering pagoda constructed from common items: 18,000 Chinese ceramic bowls, 12,000 ceramic plates, and 10,000 spoons. The spectacle includes a ‘Welcome to Australia’ segment replete with native cockatoos, kangaroos, and koalas. A Chinese cultural show of dancing, bamboo-instrument playing, and martial arts that form part of the admission commences at 7:30 p.m.
